Attendance at 20th OpenFOAM Workshop

4th July 2025 by

Ariane Vieira attended the 20th OpenFOAM Workshop, hosted by the Austrian Institute of Technology. It was great to see the developments being made and we look forwards to implementing some of the new methods into our aircraft icing solvers.

Research proposal submitted

25th March 2025 by

AeroTex is part of a consortium which has submitted an exciting proposal under the latest FFG TAKE OFF funding call. A funding decision is due later in 2025, so watch this space!

PrISM Workshop

11th December 2024 by

We were very pleased to be able to present the results of the Propeller Ice Shed Measurement (PrISM) project in a public workshop. The project consortium (AeroTex GmbH, the Austrian Institute for Icing Sciences, Dowty, a GE Aerospace company and RTA Rail Tec Arsenal, who also hosted the event) were able to share some of the key results from the project, and facilitate a discussion between all interested parties surrounding the complexity of icing on propellers.

By running a hybrid format we were able to maximise participation and were pleased to welcome people from 7 different organisations in person and a further 32 organisations online, with a total of 94 people attending the event. It was great to get views from industry and the regulatory authorities, as well as having academia present.

We hope to present further details of our results at the AIAA Aviation Forum 2025.

The PrISM project has received funding from the Bundesministerium für Klimaschutz, Umwelt, Energie, Mobilität, Innovation & Technologie as part of the Austrian Aeronautics Programme TAKE OFF via the FFG Austrian Research Promotion Agency.

More information on the PrISM project, including all involved partners, can be found here.

New staff member

3rd April 2023 by

AeroTex is delighted to announce that Ariane Vieira has joined our team! Ariane will be leading our 3D numerical code development under the FFG funded project “3D-ICESIM”. Exciting times at AeroTex!

3D-ICESIM project begins!

2nd January 2023 by

The 3D-ICESIM project aims to develop a well validated 3D icing code solution, which will be of great benefit to the development process of new ice protection systems and innovative aircraft. It will help to reduce the required test effort in icing wind tunnels and flight tests substantially, as well as improve and speed up the development process.

The project is a collaboration which is led by FH Joanneum and includes AIIS, RTA and Seoul National University as partners alongside AeroTex.

Project 3D-ICESIM has received funding from the Federal Ministry of Austria for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) as part of the Austrian Aeronautics Programme TAKE OFF via the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) under project number FO999894155.

Further expansion at AeroTex

4th April 2022 by

AeroTex is pleased to welcome Wolfgang Breitfuß to the team! Wolfgang has joined as an Aircraft Icing Engineer, initally on a part-time basis, to support our many on-going projects. Wolfgang will be using his extensive knowledge to support icing wind tunnel test campaigns and also to further develop the numerical analysis capability.

PrISM project begins

3rd January 2022 by

The PrISM project (Propeller Ice Shed Measurement) aims to develop an improved test capability for large-scale propellers at the RTA icing test facility, as well as developing test methods for energy measurement of shed ice and numerical simulation tools for ice accretion and shedding. AeroTex are leading the project, which runs from January 2022 to June 2024. Further information on the project can be found here.

Project PrISM has received funding from the Federal Ministry of Austria for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) as part of the Austrian Aeronautics Programme TAKE OFF via the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) under project number FO999886890.

AeroTex welcomes new staff member

2nd August 2021 by

AeroTex is pleased to welcome Bernhard Reinholz to the team! Bernhard has joined as an Aircraft Icing Engineer to support our many on-going projects. Bernhard’s main task will be working on the Austrian leading research project, JOICE.

1st AIAA Ice Prediction Workshop

29th July 2021 by

AeroTex participated in the 1st AIAA Ice Prediction Workshop, running from 26th to 29th July 2021. The workshop was extremely well attended by an international audience and included some very interesting discussions regarding the current capabilities of simulation codes and the need for further development. Information on the workshop can be found here.

AeroTex wins new research contract

10th June 2021 by

A submission, led by AeroTex, to the FFG (the Austrian Research Promotion Agency) has been selected for funding. The PrISM project (Propeller Ice Shed Measurement) involves Dowty Propellers, AIIS and RTA. The project will start in January 2022 and more details will be provided soon.
